Programs

​

Our clients have all been diagnosed as having mild, moderate, or profound intellectual disabilities. The majority of clients suffer from Down Syndrome, Autism, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Chromosome Disorder, Angelman Syndrome, and/or Rett Syndrome. Our goal is to provide our clients with customized services that help them increase their independence and achieve a higher quality of life.

ADVOCACY AND LIAISON

For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, The Arc preserves and protects their fundamental rights through advocacy. We connect people with disabilities, their families, professionals and others to create hope, growth and change.

ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS (CRISIS INTERVENTION)

The Arc provides assistance to individuals and families who are experiencing housing, medical, transportation, utility or related crisis. These are considered life threatening emergencies and more difficult for families with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

 

FASD AWARENESS PROGRAM

The Prevention Project has been created by The Arc of Buncombe County and ABC Board of Asheville, North Carolina, to provide training, education and resources to women of childbearing age to learn about this preventable disorder.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS (HEALTHY LIVING)

This program was designed and presented in the schools and in specialized daycare programs to affect change in eating habits, relaxation techniques, yoga and mindfulness. Data has proven that these programs help decrease behaviors and increase physical fitness.

 

OPERATION SANTA

This holiday assistance program is for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This program also provides meals and support to families during the holiday season.

 

SOCIAL ENRICHMENT

These cultural and recreational programs are designed to reduce isolation and enhance social thinking and social skills in real-life settings.

SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS

These scholarships are available for campers to attend specialized camps who are unable to afford the camp fees.

WINGS FOR ALL

This innovative program is an airport "Rehearsal" specially designed for individuals with autism spectrum disorders or other IDD diagnosis, their families and aviation professionals.
