As we move into June, I am reminded of how important community is to the work of The Arc of Buncombe County. At our recent Spring Fling, it was wonderful to see both familiar faces and many new people joining us in support of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. One thing that stood out to me throughout the evening was how many people shared personal connections to The Arc through chapters in other communities across the country. It was a reminder that while every Arc chapter serves its own local community, we are also part of a much larger network of advocacy, support, and belonging. June is also an important time for The Arc as we prepare for our Annual Meeting on June 24. This is an opportunity to look back on the past year, hear from clients and community-based service providers, and share more about the goals shaping our future. These conversations remind us that the heart of our work is always the people and families we serve. At the same time, we are preparing for a new fiscal year with several exciting housing initiatives on the horizon focused on helping individuals and families access safe, stable housing — one of the greatest needs facing many in our community today.
