Recently, we heard from a mother we assisted last spring. She reached out with wonderful news: her son graduated from high school. She thanked The Arc and shared that without the assistance her family received, she wasn't sure he would have made it to graduation. When we first connected with the family, transportation had become a serious barrier. School staff recognized the challenges the family was facing, offered assistance, and took the initiative to connect them with The Arc as a trusted community partner. Their vehicle needed essential repairs, and without reliable transportation, her son was missing school and his graduation was in jeopardy. At the same time, his mother depended on the vehicle to get to work, meaning time without transportation also meant lost income for a family already experiencing financial hardship following Hurricane Helene. Working together, the school, The Arc, a local church, and the family were able to address the immediate transportation need. We assisted with essential vehicle expenses and helped get the family back on the road. Today, we're celebrating a high school graduate! His success is a powerful reminder that sometimes removing one barrier can make an enormous difference. We are grateful for supporters who understand the value of transportation assistance and for the school staff, churches, community partners, and families who recognize a need, make the connection, and work together to find solutions. It truly takes a community.
